What do you think of this quote? How do we preserve the gospel? Is "preserve" even the right word?

I appreciate this quote. My question is, which gospel are we preserving?
This is an issue I've been wrestling with lately, raised in a denomination that greatly values their "Christian heritage". I am frustrated...it seems instead of preserving the gospel of Jesus and together, living every moment of our lives pursuing the depth of his ministry and message, we focus on preserving the story of our faith.
Where there is fear, can there be faith?
I agree that we can get carried away with "Christian heritage". It is not something to be defended or relied upon, but rather an opportunity to look back and see how God has been at work among His people. It is point of worship. This is one of the richest elements of the psalms, we get to see the people of God reviewing their heritage as an act of worship.
